Short Pump Heating & Air wanted to list out a few of the most common electrical troubles you may run into this summer.

General power overloads

Summer is a big weight on the electrical system in a home, when more appliances are put to use than ever. If your house is regularly running into circuit breakers tripping, it may mean your electrical system is outdated and needs upgrades.  Call us if you start to notice the circuit tripping!

The AC causes lights to flicker

Air conditioner usage problem in most cases doesn’t have anything to do with the AC itself, but with the electrical system. If you start to notice the lights in your home flicker whenever the air conditioner comes on, it probably means there is a power surge in the electrical system. We recommend you call Short Pump Heating & Air to evaluate what’s wrong—there may be electrical panel problems or wiring issues that need to be resolved, or you’ll soon have breakers tripping regularly.

The AC keeps tripping the circuit breaker

The compressor in your air conditioning system uses more electricity than almost any other household appliance. Because we rely so much on air conditioning in the summer months, the heavy usage may trip the circuit breaker at some point. It could be a simple fix and you can reset the breaker. If this keeps happening, there’s a bigger problem and you should call the experts.

Whether the root of this problem is with the AC or your electrical system, you can call Short Pump Heating & Air and discuss it with one of our team members. They can help determine if we need to send out an HVAC technician or an electrician to resolve the issue.

If you’re having any type of electrical issues this summer, call Short Pump Heating & Air at 804-364-9040 to discuss your options.  It might be a simple electrical annual maintenance visit or a more specific problem that we can help fix to keep you cool and well-powered this summer!
